Elliance Newsletter January 2008

Depending on which economist you listen to, we are either in a recession or on the verge of entering one.  As budgets tighten, remember that a well-designed Web site is one of the most cost-effective lead and sales generators.

Fortify Your Web Site
During a Weak Economy

1. Include prominent calls to action.
What is it you want a visitor to do? Make sure an easy-to-find callout exists to entice the visitor to request more info, make a purchase or sign up for your newsletter.
2. Minimize clicking by relying on good site architecture.
A menu on every page, using tabs and other organizational devices makes it easier for the user to find what they want.
3. Include high-quality photography and virtual tours to highlight your company.
The Web site is the face of your organization and this is the perfect space to illustrate company capabilities.
4. Write persuasive copy.
Think about messaging when writing content for your Web site, so it will resonate with your audience. At the same time, remember to keep copy succinct. Information overload affects everyone, and copy on the Web is meant to be scanned. Break up text with subheads to enhance readability.
5. Add social elements.
Do you have a company blog? Would it make sense to let a visitor sign up for RSS feeds about your company? Add these and other social elements like podcasts and videos to keep site visitors updated and rank higher on search engines.
