New Website Draws Students Down Under

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) Heinz School Australia has launched a new website, www.heinz.cmu.edu.au, designed by Elliance, Inc.

As a new school, and the first foreign university in Australia, Heinz Australia needed a way to attract students quickly and separate themselves from other schools. CMU worked with Elliance, Inc. to develop a Web site that would entice students to apply for the program, and increase attendance.

CMU Heinz continues to extend its reach around the globe, but wanted a Web presence that reflected its brand, and also took into account the distinct expectations of an Australian, pan-Asian audience. The challenge was to design a site that was unified with the existing U.S. site, http://ism.cmu.edu, also designed by Elliance, but was still distinct.

The solution was to address the audience of prospective students with the right message, tone, visual vocabulary and point of view, while bringing in similar design elements and site structure to create cohesiveness.

The Heinz Australia site is divided into two distinct categories based on its masters degree programs – information technology management and public policy and management. Each section speaks to the main questions of prospective students – what will be the benefit of participating in this program, and what does this school have to offer that others don’t?

A multi-media section includes videos, photos and a 360-degree tour, allowing prospective students to experience the school virtually.
