Carnegie Science Center visitors attending BODIES…The Exhibition can explore health care careers in southwestern Pa. through an interactive kiosk developed in partnership with Elliance, Inc. and the Jewish Healthcare Foundation.
"Carnegie Science Center was seeking a means to incorporate information about health care careers into BODIES…The Exhibition," says Ronald J. Baillie, Chief Program Officer at the Science Center. “We had been talking with the Jewish Healthcare Foundation about ways we might partner,” says Baillie. “We saw their Web site and were very impressed by the quality and depth of information about health care careers in the region. Using their Web site within a kiosk on site made sense.”
Jewish Healthcare Foundation’s Web site was developed and is managed by Elliance, Inc.
BODIES…The Exhibition features 15 real preserved human bodies and more than 200 additional organs and partial specimens, providing visitors an inside look at human anatomy as never before offered. The health care careers kiosk will complement the educational experience.
“We look at the Health Careers Futures kiosk as a conduit, a place to channel the enthusiasm for science that the BODIES exhibition and other exhibits at the Science Center might stimulate,” said Karen Wolk Feinstein, president of JHF.
The kiosk will be offline, but will utilize the design concept Elliance developed for www.abouthealthcareers.org in cooperation with JHF. The kiosk will be easily accessible to those visiting BODIES, and will remain a fixture for anyone coming to the Carnegie Science Center after BODIES closes in May.
“We are hosting numerous experts from various health fields for workshops and lectures throughout the stay of the BODIES,” says Baillie. “Each of these programs is open to high school students to get up close and personal with these experts.”
The Science Center has also launched a teen docent program for BODIES and is planning several health care career fairs for middle and high school students.
