In January 2008, the Pennsylvania Economy League (PEL) began posting video from original Pennsylvania Public Television Network (PPTN) programming on www.IssuesPA.net. By viewing these online videos, Pennsylvanians are now able to learn about four important issues ‚?? local governance, education, energy and infrastructure, and health care.
‚??Adding video to a Web site is a great way to get exposure, especially if you add social elements like bookmarking,‚?Ě said Roger Slayton, VP of E-Business at Elliance, the strategic Internet marketing firm that worked with PEL to bring the videos online.
Elliance added bookmarking with social media tags, including del.ici.ous, Reddit and StumbleUpon, as well as the ability to sign up for an RSS feed, all ways for site visitors to share the videos organically and therefore increase traffic to the site.
Four 60-minute programs will be produced between January 1, 2008 and June 30, 2008. Each will focus on one of the four topics mentioned above. PEL also intends to create four additional episodes in 2009. A number of programs from previous years have been posted on the site as well.
The stations of PPTN wish to expand the IssuesPA initiative in each of the next two fiscal years in an effort to engage a statewide television audience in a thoughtful discussion of the issues important to the state‚??s future. WITF in association with WHYY, WLVT, WQED, and WPSU will create in-depth programming to focus on issues that affect the lives of Pennsylvania voters. Most often, these issues aren‚??t simple and have many influences, causes, and a widespread impact. The programs will provide a thoughtful and compelling examination of issues, and may encourage a more relevant discussion of the most important issues that face Pennsylvanians.
IssuesPA is a nonpartisan statewide awareness project focused exclusively on raising the issues most critical to Pennsylvania's economic future. The Pennsylvania Economy League initially launched IssuesPA to promote issue awareness around the 2002 gubernatorial election. IssuesPA is now the leading resource on state-level issues and policies in Pennsylvania, coupled with a dynamic, multi-media outreach strategy. IssuesPA is supported by the membership of The Pennsylvania Economy League, Inc.
