Designer From Elliance, a Digital Marketing Agency, Critiques Entries in WebAward Competition

As a digital marketing agency, Elliance believes it's important to give back to the community and promote excellence in the interactive field. That's why the company is proud that Elliance's Michelle Leonette volunteers as a judge for the Web Marketing Association's International WebAward Competition. This is the sixth year she has served as a judge and the first year she was picked to serve on this year's panel of best of show judges.
According to Bill Rice, president of the WMA, the best of show judges are a handpicked group of 10 veteran judges. These judges rank the seven websites that have scored among the highest in the 2012 competition.
Leonette, has already critiqued numerous entries this summer. Every website submitted for consideration must include the mission of the website, the target audience and the goals of the site. The judges then critically assess if the website addresses those goals.
"It all comes down to the user's experience," she explains. "We look at seven criteria; design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copywriting and ease of use and rank each from 1 to 10 with 10 being the best. I believe it's important to consider every detail—the functional, the delightful and everything in between—from the user's perspective."
Leonette volunteers her time to judge these websites for two reasons. First, she says it helps her stay on top of the ever-changing interactive field. And second, she enjoys the opportunity to give positive and constructive feedback to other designers.
"It's beneficial for everyone in this industry to learn from those who do it well," she adds.
Entries in the 2012 WebAward Competition are evaluated from June to the end of August. Winners will be announced on September 12, 2012. The WMA promotes a fair and objective atmosphere by making sure judges do not evaluate their own sites, which is important since Elliance has won a number of WebAwards in the past.
In addition to having their work honored by the WMA, websites designed by Elliance have be recognized by the Webby Awards, the W3Awards, Horizon Interactive, the Interactive Media Awards and others.
