Elliance Receives Prestigious STEP Inside Design Award

Elliance, Inc., a Pittsburgh Web design and e-marketing company, was recently recognized as a Site of Merit in the STEP 2007 Best of the Web awards, hosted by “STEP Inside Design” magazine, for designing www.collegeprowler.com.
College Prowler publishes more than 230 unique college guides with student-generated reviews and unedited quotes on everything from campus dining to academics and diversity.
The redesigned site, www.collegeprowler.com is fun and dynamic, truly capturing the youthful energy of the brand, and at the same time extremely information-rich and usable. Combining unique design aspects, like hand-drawn illustrations, while migrating the contents of more than 230 books (40,000 pages total) is no small feat, yet the site accomplishes this in an engaging and compelling format.
“Inspiration behind the design came from reflecting back on my own college experience, remembering the excitement and the sense of possibility,” said Edward Shin, interactive designer for the site. “We tried to capture that youthful irreverence and bring in elements universal to the college experience.”
The impressive lineup of experienced judges included Hillman Curtis, a multi-talented and renowned designer and principal and CEO of hillmancurtis.com, inc; Kelly Goto, a principal at gotomedia, LLC; and Joe Pemberton, a principal and cofounder of Punchcut.
This year, in response to a record number of submissions, the magazine decided to show winners in three categories – Judges’ Selections for Best in Show, Winning Sites and Sites of Merit.
